Hunt Reports 2009/2010

Summer Season 2010

2010 was Ceredigion's opportunity to host the ROYAL WELSH SHOW and amongst many of the fundraising events, we supported one of the planned events - a presentation of one of the County's Welsh Cob Studs on Saturday 19th June, @ Trefaesfawr, nr. Beulah, Newcastle Emlyn.
A fine display of this family's legacy to Welsh breeding was presented to all and it was a privilege for the Hunt to be part of this spectacular.

A big thank you to all our Hunt Supporters who gave of their time to help on the day.

FFOSYFFIN SHOW  -  26TH JUNE  - It was a proud day to see so many of our hunt members placed in classes at this quality family show. Indeed, the young riders class, saw  4 junior Hunt members get places in the top 6 positons, in one of the largest classes in the Show. There were many successes in other classes, both by adult and children Hunt members.

Well done to all, you represented your Hunt with pride.

10th July

Tivyside Show

The Hunt continues to support this local show in a number of ways. The Hunt is in its third year of providing the food and refreshments for the Stewards - of which there are some 80, hungry and thirsty mouths to feed.

A big thank you to our Hunt supporters who gave of their time and contributed in so many ways to the running of the Show.

The day was again a huge success, with people learning about this modern style of hunting.

21st July - The Festival of Hunting - Peterborough

A couple and half of bitch pups that were bred in kennels were presented to the Mid Wales and Glamorgan Mink Hounds - Cheesey, Chuckles and Chatterbox.

Cheesey and Chatterbox won as a couple in the unentered bitch couple Otter Hound class and Chatterbox won the best unentered bitch class.

We were delighted that David Jones, Master of the Mid Wales and Glamorgan had the opportunity to show them as the Grand mother and Father were presented to us three seasons ago, by David Jones.

David Jones also won Champion Otter Dog Hound with Floater.

We are lucky enough to have one dog pup in kennels sired by Floater, out of Chorus.

Cardigan County Show - Wed. 28th July

Having introduced Parading Hounds to the Show, last year, this year the Hunt contributed in a different way, by donating a Hunt Cup for the winner of the Open Working Hunter Class.

The Hunt continues to support local shows in whatever way it can and it was a pleasure to see so many Hunt Members succeed at the County Show.

Public, members and supporters alike had an opportunity to meet some of our pups to be entered in 2011/2012, and it was satisfying to see such warm support from local farming familes and the public alike.

Fun Ride

There are few opportunities remaining to enjoy the Teifi Valley and its main tributary the Ceri ! - all in a days ride !

The West Wales Farmers Bloodhounds’ Fun Ride provided that very opportunity !

With open fields, bridle paths and river crossings including a few “Irish” looking banks, the day was enjoyed by everyone, of all riding abilities. Finished off with hot dogs and refreshments back at the Mart Car Park in Newcastle Emlyn. The day was replete for many that had travelled as far a field as Aberystwyth and Port Talbot.

Thank you to all that attended and supported the Hunt.

Scenic Ride - 15th August

Leaving Newcastle Emlyn, the field moved out towards Adpar passing the famous castle, built in 1240 and where it is claimed the last dragon in Wales was slain, after it alighted at the castle breathing fire and smoke.

Riding over the famous Teifi river, the field passed the site of the first printing press in Wales, established in 1718 by Isaac Carter and climbed up out of the town into fields to view the several fascinating buildings including the old market hall with its clock tower and one of the smallest theartres in Britain, the 19th century church, the magistrate's court and several chapels.

The ride passed through Cwm cou following the north bank of the Teifi towards one of the finest river gorges in Wales, Cenarth gorge. Important to geologists in helping to explain the history of the ice age and where salmon can be seen leaping the spectacular waterfalls in Autumn.

Dropping down into Cenarth the field crossed the 1787 bridge, the circular holes designed to strengthen the bridge and reduce its weight, before taking a welcome break at the Three Horseshoes, next to the National Coracle Centre for Wales

The ride moved off, returning on opposite bank, back to Newcastle Emlyn, using farm lanes and tracks from the days of the drovers and before. Altogether, just over 10 miles were covered and the day ended with hot dogs, cakes and refreshments back in town.
